SOPA i el que el vent no s'emportà
Marcel et ses Drôles de Femmes was selected by Ateneu Nou Barris theatre in Barcelona to produce its "Cirque d’hiver” in Barcelona in December 2019. Marcel Vidal Castells and Marine Fourteau created a production for this commission to be performed by actors who auditioned successfully
7 meals, 7 Christmases, the same soup, the same weather outside, the same Christmas tree and the same songs 7 times …
…A drama of some sort is declared 7 times including distance, separations and confidences, to the point of knowing virtually everything about them, until we wonder if they exist in each of us.
In this family-oriented and nostalgic scenario behind closed doors, we evoke everything that revolves around the theme of family: abandonment, absence, lack, tradition, habits, life passing by and the memories that define our very substance.
Through humour and tragedy “SOPA” explores a series of Christmas lunches celebrated spanning several generations by the same family.
Generations follow one another year after year, at the same table and the same window.
With each winter and over the course of a meal, each of us can relate to this strange family, to which each member adds their own element of madness and fears.
Whether a child, servant or grandmother, weaknesses, dramas and joy are revealed with generosity and fragility.
A show based on questioning the passage of time and inspired by "A Long Christmas Dinner" by Thornton Wilder.
